Originating from visionary and audio enthusiast Greg Mackin in 1970, Mackie is a company that was initially focused on crafting durable, high-performance audio mixers affordable for working musicians. Over the decades, Mackie has expanded its product line to include a wide array of recording, pro audio, live sound, podcasting, and content creation equipment, all celebrated for their heavy-duty build and exceptional sound quality.

Whether it’s the studio, stage, or the creation of digital content, Mackie continues to influence the spaces of music and film, helping turn creative dreams into realities. One of its latest products, the Mackie MainStream, is proof of this, especially speaking to how Mackie is changing the game for livestreamers.

We had the pleasure of trying out this livestreaming interface, check out our favorite features and overall outlook on MainStream below.

The Mackie MainStream is a complete livestreaming and video capture interface equipped with advanced technical specifications tailored for dynamic content creation. Featuring high-quality analog inputs, it includes a main mic input with a substantial +60 dB gain, along with additional inputs for a chat headset, smartphones, and outputs for headphones and speakers. What I Liked About THE MACKIE MAINSTREAM

Versatility For Different Gaming & Livestreaming Set-Ups

It is awesome to use an interface like MainStream that is not solely made for just PC gamers. I am a console gamer (mainly PlayStation), and since the majority of professional gamers are typically PC, the majority of interfaces are geared towards them. This is not the case with MainStream, which acts as a computer card for Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and other gaming consoles. All I had to do was connect my console with an HDMI and use the HDMI passthrough connected to my TV. From there, it is easy to stream with a laptop and headset while getting high quality on your feed.

Of course, it also works amazingly with PC gaming; you can literally set up a gaming arsenal via MainStream. Some options to try out is connecting an XLR broadcast mic, a USB webcam and DSLR camera for different angles, and most importantly your headphones and PC. MainStream makes it simple to connect and utilize all of these at once, completely leveling up your livestreams.

Free Matrix Software With Virtual Features That Sync With MainStream

It may just seem like an added bonus that is optional to use, yet the Matrix software should be mandatory for all content creators and livestreamers that are looking to grow their audience. It is really cool that you can add up to six virtual inputs, and route them to your livestream. For me, the most crucial input I connected was Spotify since I am very involved in the electronic music scene, both in my career and personal life. However, I am sure there will be others.

You can also link four hardware inputs, such as a sampler, mic, video game console, and laptop simultaneously. The Matrix is optimal for throwing vocal effects and samples into your livestreams with 24 virtual pads, which would more than double if you connect the real-life sampler as well. Matrix is primed for tweaking and editing your mix too, and can even be used with devices other than MainStream.

Fast & Easy Programmable Control Keys

One of the most frustrating livestreaming tasks is constantly switching back and forth between different camera angles, adjusting volume as needed, and other controls you have to be aware of around the clock when live. The six programmable control keys turned this annoying responsibility into one of my favorite components of livesteaming. Instead of having to dive through a menu on your computer or sifting through multiple applications to modify prep and during your livestream, this row of buttons enable you to activate samples, transition between video shots, and much more in mere seconds.

What I Wasn’t Crazy About

Need To Buy Your Own Connector Cables Separately

This is basically a given anyways, most interfaces only come with a power cable and sometimes one standard connector cable. MainStream provides a power cable with every purchase, but no cube, so make sure you have an extra one to use if needed. In general, it is important to have all the connecting cables you may need for different equipment you will be using in your livestreams at the ready. Any extra ones that are bundled with interfaces or other gaming products will most likely be used at some point, as these cables last long but not forever, especially for consistent gamers and livestreamers.

Who Is This For?

Everyday Livestreamers

This interface is obviously a great fit for anyone that regularly livestreams, whether that be on a professional or amateur level. The set-up guide and instructions do not overcomplicate the learning process of using it, in addition to becoming familiar with all of MainStream’s buttons and functions. On top of the PC and console gaming adaptability mentioned earlier, the flexibility of MainStream makes it the most suitable interface for any type of stream. Its “Just Chatting” setup uses a DSLR camera, USB mic, and a smartphone for chatting with a call-in guest. The Mix Minus function ensures the caller doesn’t hear an echo.

Professional Gamers

For anyone who games, even if you are still building your fanbase so that you can turn it into your full or part-time career, this is a must-have product. It can be extremely difficult to balance improving your skills at the game itself, interacting with your followers, brainstorming unique content, posting to social media, and livestreaming. With MainStream, you can at least knock off one of these major daily duties off your to-do list. If you are a high-level gamer and already have a social media team behind you, this interface and the effects you can add to it will make your livestreams and content more engaging.
