There is no pattern or definitive day of the week when we are going to bring you the new sounds, when we find them we share them with you, it’s that simple. As for this installment, it is a collection of mixes and new tracks that your ears should fancy.
Nicky Romero: February Special Mix 2012
Nicky Romero brings you this first mix, a young Dutch star on the rise. This mix was released as a salute to his fans after reaching 50k Twitter followers. It’s an energetic mix packed with hits from the early part of this year. Featuring electro house bangers from multiple names such as Sander Van Doorn, Hardwell, Bingo Players and Tommy Trash, to name a few. This is a prime example of why I prefer mixes to an irregular shuffle. It’s relevant to the times and doesn’t disappoint.
Dirty South: March 2012 Mix
Yet again, Dirty South doesn’t cease to bring the sonic pain. A house mix comprised of his already tried and true tunes, “Eyes Wide Open” and “Alive,” mixed with favorites from Swanky Tunes, Steve Aoki and Denzal Park. The mix concludes on a powerful note with a Zedd remix of Skrillex’s “Breakin’ A Sweat” followed by Alesso’s “Raise Your Head.”
Felix Cartal “Black To White” (feat. Miss Palmer)
This next deal is a new track from Vancouver based producer Felix Cartal. “Black to White” is a single off his upcoming album Different Faces, due out March 27th on Dim Mak Records. “Black to White” has a progressive, high-energy top end paired with harmonious vocals from Miss Palmer. It’s one of my favorites of the month and the accompanying video isn’t too shabby either.
Katy B “Witches Brew” (Diplo Remix)
Hold up. Does Diplo like bass? Thought so. This was already a great track that Katy B put together with mystical vocals and an electronic feel but Diplo takes it to the next level. This is a hearty, bass and wobble injected remix that I didn’t see coming.
Neil Young “Old Man” (Sound Remedy Remix)
I said that I didn’t see the last remix coming; this one is a completely different story. If you told me that you were going to remix a Neil Young track I would probably laugh in your face and tell you that it’s not possible or it would sound like shit. Au contraire. Sound Remedy seems to do it with ease to the 40-year-old track “Old Man.” I listened to Neil Young a lot while I was growing up—I still do, so I had a predetermined judgment on someone remixing one of his tracks out of respect for Neil. Sound Remedy keeps the old-school country feel of the song intact and introduces it to some 21st century wobble, bass and some electronic production.
