What I Liked Most About Gunnar Optiks Glasses

They’re Incredibly Comfy

I’ve tested various blue light glasses, and a common issue is their tendency to prioritize function over form. This often means they perform well but fall short in comfort. However, Gunnar Optiks glasses are an exception. They fit my face perfectly, featuring pliable hinges and temples that snugly fit my head without causing pressure.

These glasses also have a bit of weight, ensuring they stay in place on my head without sliding or slipping down my nose. They don’t weigh down my head or cause neck strain, even after extended use. Remarkably, wearing them for long hours remains incredibly comfortable, making them a hassle-free choice compared to many other blue light glasses.

There Are Tons Of Options To Choose From

I am a music producer in my professional life, but once I clock off, I can’t wait to dive into some of my favorite fantasy games. Well, it’s more like my favorite fantasy game: World of Warcraft. This affinity for this simple game made me jump with particular excitement when we were requested to review these glasses. While having a standard line of glasses, I saw that Gunnar prioritizes creative partnerships with other massive gaming brands, such as Blizzard Entertainment, which makes WoW one of them.

But that’s just the first layer to the iceberg of options that Gunnar comes with, as they offer WoW-branded possibilities and different versions based on the different factions within the game. I was completely sold, and as a lifelong Alliance player, I’ve rarely taken them off when I’m in front of my computer.

I know many of you likely aren’t as devoted to a 20-year-old video game as I am, but rest assured, there are countless other options for various games. Call Of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, and others are just the start of games with their own color schemes and frame styles.

They Work!

Wellness-at-work items appear on the market constantly, and I’ve purchased enough of their near-scams off Instagram to have wised up to the fact that most of the time, it’s just clever marketing. While I was excited to snag a pair of World of Warcraft blue-light glasses for gaming and working, I was skeptical they might be another gimmick that’s more flash than function. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth, as they helped with eye strain after long working hours.

Their arrival couldn’t have been more timely, especially at the end of the year when the entire Magnetic team is in crunch mode, writing up all the end-of-the-year content like the best albums of the year and a comprehensive list of our favorite gear for producing and DJing. These glasses were a lifesaver throughout this process, preventing headaches and tired eyes even after 12+ hours a day of working, producing, and gaming.

They’re Cool

I know I might be a bit biased, having received a pair of glasses tailor-made for WoW fans, but they possess an undeniable cool factor, at least in certain cultural niches. While I probably received one of the nerdier versions of these glasses, they still garnered a fair amount of compliments from friends and producer colleagues who visited the studio. These compliments increased after I had them try on the glasses; they all echoed my opinions about the comfort level and the effectiveness of the blue-light filtering.

One friend was so impressed that he pulled out his phone and ordered a pair on the spot!

What I Wasn’t Crazy About

They Come At A Premium

I know I’m in a unique position here because Gunnar sent me a pair of these glasses for review, but the price tag is not something to scoff at. The WoW glasses come in at just under $100, which makes them about as expensive as your average pair of Ray Bands.

Granted, comparing them to Ray Bands is a bit of an application to the oranges comparison. Designer glasses often make you pay top dollar just for the brand name, and I genuinely believe Gunnar’s quality justifies the price tag. But all in all, I had to note this minor hesitation as $99 is a chunk of change no matter how you spin it.

The Have A Sheen

The glasses I was sent have a light sheen, which likely helps reduce the blue light without having some deep, dark lense coloration like other blue-light glasses I’ve owned before. This sheen catches and plays with low lightning ever so slightly, and it took me a few nights gaming in the low light of my studio to connect the occasional sparkles on the peripherals of my vision to the sheen on the lenses. Honestly, once I knew it wasn’t me going crazy and just a feature of the glasses, I thought it added something fun to the experience, but I could see other users wanting a more straightforward and strictly functional lense to be turned off.

Final Thoughts

Let’s cut to the chase about GUNNAR glasses: they’re a solid investment in your eye health without compromising style. The comfort factor is off the charts – they fit like a dream, and you barely feel them, even after hours of wear. Whether deep into a gaming session or crunching through work, these glasses keep the strain off your eyes without feeling like a burden on your face.

And the cool factor?

It’s there, especially with its various styles, catering to gamers and professionals.

But, let’s talk brass tacks – they’re not cheap. Dropping nearly a hundred bucks on a pair of glasses might make you think twice. Yet, when you weigh the comfort, style, and effectiveness in reducing eye strain and headaches, it feels like money well spent. Sure, there’s a slight sheen on the lenses, a bit quirky at first, but it’s a small trade-off for the overall quality and experience. In a nutshell, if you’re looking to protect your eyes in the digital age without looking like a dork, GUNNAR glasses are worth every penny.
